Slavery to Sin- A Strong Indication of the Presence of the Spirit of Pharaoh

The Spirit of Pharaoh ‘opposes and exploits, aiming to keep individuals in spiritual or emotional “Egypt” (bondage)

We can relate the ‘Spirit of Pharaoh’ to life and activity in the church and in the life of the believer. Sanballat and Tobiah stood against the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Why? The Spirit of Rebellion. This spirit of rebellion resides in churches. How do you think a believer is sitting in church but his heart is against what is going on? May be the pastor went direct with an example during a message that coincidentally happened to be his problem.

It can stir anger within the believer and that believer wouldn’t let it go after the message. If a believer feels very much hurt about a situation, it can stay for a while. If he cannot physically attack the pastor in, he develops a certain hatred for that man of God in such a way that, he is repulsive spirit towards him anytime he mounts the pulpit. The believer’s heart is closed and anger grows and nurtures his heart. It can be a highly destructive spirit that can kill the work of the Holy Spirit completely.

The believer can walk in chronic opposition. Many times when believers commit fornication and cannot forgive themselves, accept the wrong and change, they can live in rebellion and stay in opposition. Fornication can grow into protracted attitude of the believer, metamorphosing into multiple sins. It gets to a stage where the believer is not able to stop but effortlessly wallows in sin. This makes them offensive and angry when no one even mentions it. Continuous sinning nurtures rebellion.

Self-destructiveness makes the believer exploitative. The believer can sin to a point of no return and because he cannot stop, he abuses the situation. A slave is a personality who has been sold and so the buyer decides what to do with the slave. The Israelites were exploited by the Egyptian slave or task masters because they had no choice. So the spirit of Pharaoh possesses a believer who is a slave to the devil by his continuous sin. He is sold out to the devil and until drastic recovery measures are taken just as God had to inflict Egypt with plagues and death to deliver Israel, the devil will forever possess some believers.

‘Need’ has suffered a lot of ladies in church. If a lady does not know how to control her needs, she can become slaves to men who carries wealth. Anytime they are in need, they run to such men and for some ladies, this have become a permanent lifestyle. Christian ladies can run to worldly men and Christian men can run to worldly women. In fact the devil has succeeded in making such persons vulnerable to need without seeing themselves as solutions to their own problems. That is a deception the devil is exploiting. Some men are slaves to womanizing, smoking and drinking. Their hearts were deeply connected to those needs at a time and once they got hooked, the devil exploits their deep desire for such needs always and it has become a very difficult attitude to stop.

In some homes, the marriages of ladies have been sold. Such ladies do not find the men or even if they find, it may not last. Finding one fault after the other brings the relationship abruptly to an end. In other homes, the men cannot be men. Men are never successful in such homes because their destinies have been sold. They don’t progress with their academics, they don’t get good jobs and cannot raise successful families. In other families, the children are wayward and do not become anything better. Believers in slavery conditions has to come to the rude awakening that, something is not ordinary about their lifestyle. Diligently seeking spiritual solutions could get to the bottom of the matter and a mammoth deliverance is anticipated just as the Israelites left Egypt with profits and benefits.
