Point to God’s Mercy and His Steadfast Love When the Enemy Comes at You
God’s mercy is defined as His compassionate, steadfast love that withholds punishment and grants grace to the undeserving. It is a fundamental, active attribute of God, bringing restoration, forgiveness, and new opportunities, often described as being “new every morning”. Wherever there is lack and extreme need, compassion is needed. For instance nations that are poorly managed are left with destitute. It leads to widespread begging by the roadways. Such persons are always at the heels of people who pass by them in town begging for alms. In Jesus’s days in the New Testament, there were similar people. ‘But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.(Matthew 9:36).
Since God is merciful, He has the passion to help people. It is the reason He couldn’t send the crowd away, realizing they could be hungry. God’s love is solidly rooted. God’s love is unwavering because it has foundation. The foundation of God’s love is based on the fact that, He shared the most priceless thing, His blood to save humanity from their sins. Greater love has no man than this: that a man should lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13). And so the believer cannot doubt God’s love for him. We are bounded in every situation by God’s love. You couldn’t imagine how you escaped that tragedy. You didn’t know how you paid that debt. When you were going to ask you didn’t know you will be given. It was after you remembered that you were scared but now are out of danger. Just like that. This is how God’s steadfast love works.
You should have lost that case but you won. You could have been condemned but Mercies of God through the jury saved you. This one you can see that it was God. Do you see the guys who come to church dirty and in tatters, the undeserving love of God covers them all. In fact the gospel is for such people and they are the reason Jesus came. Occasions that people are sacked and are not given the front seat because they look dirty, those are the ones the love of God accepts. Remember the rich man who threw the party to important people who did not turn up, asked his servants to bring people from the roadways. With Jesus, the party is filled with available and ready people.
The entire gospel is centered on God’s love because He is an embodiment of love. God’s love was what restored humanity back to Him after Adam and Eve disobedience leading to sin. It was God’s love through the shedding of His blood that for gave us our sins. Jesus unblemished Blood fulfilled all the technicalities for our sins to be forgiven. It was a sinless blood and it has to pour as a righteous spiritual sacrifice. Now the new believer has opportunity to succeed in his endeavor, experience financial prosperity, business and marital success. Opportunity to meet people are all blessings and rewards from the righteous acts of God.
‘The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His faithfulness never comes to an end. They are renewed every morning. Great is His faithfulness’.- This song says it all. Just as a new morning, it comes with fresh opportunities and energy to try what you failed at again and the Grace of God is capable of giving you a better day. What went into the salvation story and what Jesus had to endure to bring completion is a huge testimony that, our God is merciful.
