Accusation Wears down the Believer before the Devil Attacks
Source
This perspective, which highlights the strategy of accusation over immediate physical assault, aligns with theological interpretations of the devil as the “accuser of our brethren”. Satan is viewed in this context as a “slanderer” who focuses on causing doubt, fear, and guilt, rather than simply launching unprovoked attacks-: ‘All Things Life’

We had studied that, in spite of the fact that, the devil accuses first, in other contexts, he attacks first. But basically, we know by scripture that, the devil is the accuser of the brethren (Revelations 12:9-11). Like the dominant boxer who keeps jabbing the nose and eyebrow of his opponent until they split open and dazes off, the devil can keep accusing you until he has given you too much to think off before you let-in the towel.
In the literature above, it describes it as the strategy of accusation before he unleashes the final nail on the coffin. So the enemy deliberately weighs you down to give you a knock-out blow. The despondency and the restlessness you face is because, the devil wants to knock you out. Be on your alert. It all ties into the fact that, the devil will by all means attack and so the topic of attacking the believer is still not out of question.
The literature reaffirms that, the devil is the accuser of the brethren. He does this by giving you something to always think about. If you are one that almost always feels like you’re carrying a burden of guilt and sin, the devil is at your door. The devil virtually uses his tongue to bear false witness against you. It is the tongue that destroys an individual even in our world. The bible talks of unbridled tongue (James 3:8-9)
The devil plan is to put pressure on the situation you are going through until you begin to doubt God. Until you are gripped with fear, the devil won’t stop. Until you feel trouble guilty, the devil will keep on applying pressure on that particular sin you committed. The devil want do harass you until you feel you committed the crime. The reason bible says we should ‘pray without ceasing’ (1Thessalonians 5:17) is because the devil’s mode of destruction is consistent. The devil is never tired of tormenting you. When the sons of God gathered and the devil appeared, he was actually moving about (Job 1:7) looking for occasions to put someone to the sword.
The devil is actually not tired of working. This is what most Christians miss. It is a spiritual battle but we live most often in the physical, trying to make sense with the spiritual. We need to behave like ‘fools’ who have not heard nor seen anything but conscious of the fact that, the devil is working twenty-fours, we must remain ceaseless in prayer in order not to falter. Indeed if you were just ‘humming’ some tongues, you wouldn’t have fallen into that sin, you wouldn’t have gotten yourself into that unnecessary conversation that made you say things you wouldn’t have said.
Today, if someone ask you, “are you sure heaven exists? Are you sure this Christianity thing is real? Are you sure you will be making heaven if there is? What will you tell the person? This is how the enemy questions our identity in Christ. The devil knows that, the JESUS whom you confessed, you haven’t seen Him before. New converts may have recited the sinners’ confession without faith and the devil knows it. The devil knows you were saying it because you were asked to say it. You went forward to accept Christ because others went. So the devil knows that, for most believers, they are not sure about their faith. This is why he comes so hard at you. The devil knows that, you foundation in God is weak. You don’t have basic word to support your Christianity and because of that, your confidence is low.
The first thing the devil does is to point at your personality. It is just as you soiled your clothes with mud. You say depressingly, “Look at what I did to myself!” The shame can be unbearable especially if you slipped and fell in public. An accusing voice can be condemning. It can come from that friend who is not a Christian hoping that you slip and fall for him to come at you. ‘You call yourself a Christian yet look at the way you have dressed. In a mini-skirt? Your dress is sleeveless and the side cut open. We give the accuser the chance to condemn us by our actions.
We have to be very smart as Christians to jump out of situations that comes to question our faith in God. For instance, if you anticipate it’s unsafe to go to the guys room, don’t go to avoid the unexpected from happening. This is how you can gain an outright respect from the devil. If you can anticipate evil and run away from it, the devil will have nothing to accuse you of. Usually, people feel dirty after fornication. The devil can use the occasion to tell you, ‘God can never accept you anymore’. It’s a lie. He is just using your predicament to frustrate you knowing that, sexual sin creates spiritual emptiness.
Do you know that, the desire to commit that sin was actually instigated by the devil but he uses your likes or interest? You feel like doing the thing but it’s actually evil. The sadness and regret after the incident is a testimony that, it wasn’t the ‘real you’ that was committing the flaw. It is the accuser that recalls the event to you to feel bad about it. In fact it is after the incident that you feel the sin effect of your actions. Who laments over a damage in his life? The spirit of God brings the realization and the enemy punishes you with the damaging effects.
Have control over the things that runs through your mind. Your mind is where the battle begins because conception begins from the mind. Whatever you want to do, starts from the mind. If you will doubt, it is the state of your mind that can cause you to doubt. It is your composure that can incite fear. The combination of doubt and fear plus poor composure disorients your entire bodily system which undermines your soundness to believe God for the things He has promised you.
