Justice Served In the Interest of Love, Fairness, Accountability & Restoration
Literature
Love does not cancel justice: rather, it informs and elevates it. Instead of eliminating the need for fairness or accountability, love perfects justice by ensuring that the pursuit of what is right is motivated by a desire to protect, heal, and restore rather than simply to punish-source: MarchToZion
Love but not blind
Some parents love their children so much they do not want to punish them. They could take offense against persons that touch their children. For some parents, they even have a policy of not touching their kids with the cane. ‘Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them (Proverbs 13:24).
You demonstrate love by correcting your son. You end up destroying that child when you have to correct with a rod but you refused. Too much love for your Son is destroying him rather. Be mindful. What you call love may not be necessarily love. It could be abuse. Be careful your ‘too much love’ for your son does not abuse his life.
Now, the literature says, love does not cancel justice. It suggests that, the fact that God loves us does not exempt us from punishment. Justice also means fairness, impartiality, righteousness, reasonableness, evenhandedness, honesty, integrity and uprightness. Where you are wrong, the word of God will say you’re wrong. God does not judge your case separate because you’re handsome. If you love God, you have to live right for Him. The thing will hurt the brother but you did it.
Be kind to all your children, don’t show special preference. Speak the truth and stand by the truth. May people testify that, you are an individual with a right standing. So the fact that God loves you does not mean he would blindly do the direct opposite of the above. While God is effecting justice on your case, He is fostering the habit for you to become a good person.
It implies that, love tells justice what to do. To straighten you up, you have to be put in prison to learn your lessons. God, through the law courts, demonstrate his love for wrongdoers of society. Love shows the way justice must be served. If your offense is a punishable one, you have to be punished as sign of fairness. In our world it is said, justice is to serve the rule of law. There are prescribed ways by which things are done and once the process is followed, it makes love a beautiful thing to behold.
People who are hateful can eliminate fairness and accountability. Persons who have a challenge loving in spite of conditions can hate people who love others unconditionally. Such persons do not give people what they rightfully deserve. There are people who wish others are troubled. Their joy is to see others suffer because in time past, they may not have been treated fairly. In that same manner, they dish out their sorrow to others. There are people who distribute stuff and leave others out because, they feel such persons do not deserve it.
People do not feel accountable in anyway. They can spend money without saying how much they spent. They simply do not have the character to account on their expenditure or they blindly refuse to. To cause people pain sometimes, people can just refuse to be accountable. Could it be that gross mismanagement in offices sometimes is as a result of the fact that, others have suffered before and they feel happy rewarding others with evil? Some people never received love. Their joy is to reward others with pain.
Contrary, the literature is of the opinion that, if you have love, you must show fairness and accountability. It says, love is what makes us to judge with the right heart and without vindictiveness. So that if you see someone who is loving selflessly, something drives the individual and the main aim is to ensure that people are not blindly defeated and destroyed. They wouldn’t want bad things to happen to people. That is the goal.
People who love also put smiles on faces. By putting smiles, they heal people. There are organizations whose aim is save destitute or war victims. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are specialists in taking care of persons who have taken refuge in other nations due to wars and conflicts. Individual philanthropists and NGO’s do undertake such missions as well. They go to the large extent of providing shelter and clothing for the needy. Such organizations also have the policy of restoring nations by helping to build war-stricken nations. For instance Liberia needed the intervention of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), ECOWAS, United States and the UK to help bring the country back on its feet after that devastating and protracted war.
